Cultural diversity is one of South Australia’s greatest assets. As a state built upon successful waves of immigration, South Australia has a strong history of welcoming people seeking a better life for themselves and their families.
In recent years, our multicultural landscape has undergone remarkable and radical change. Demographic shifts, global mobility, rapidly changing technologies and conflict have all contributed to the increasing complexity of multiculturalism in South Australia.
The issues new and emerging communities face today are very different to those experienced by new arrivals in previous decades. To better harness the benefits and meet contemporary needs, the South Australian Government has launched the Multicultural Action Plan for South Australia, 2017-2018.
The Plan outlines the directions the State Government will pursue to build, strengthen and celebrate our multicultural communities over the next two years. It represents an important first step towards developing contemporary policies and practices, and a collaborative, long-term strategy for multiculturalism in South Australia.
